Standardising Lamb Processing Across Two Plants in Australia

WAMMCO, one of Australia’s largest lamb and mutton processors, has successfully deployed Emydex across both its Katanning (WA) and Southern Meats (Goulburn, NSW) facilities.

This dual-site go-live marks a major milestone, standardising operations across both plants on a single platform for the first time.

As a farmer-owned cooperative supplying domestic and export markets, WAMMCO plays a key role in supporting returns to its 700+ farmer-members.

Working with Emydex

WAMMCO partnered with Emydex to implement a modern, integrated factory floor solution across its multi-site operations, improving real-time data capture, traceability, and operational efficiency, and supporting its mission to deliver strong returns to farmer-members while meeting growing global demand.

Challenge

WAMMCO was operating a mix of legacy systems, including an in-house back-office platform used for livestock procurement, farmer feedback and payments.

This approach created operational complexity and introduced business risk, particularly in maintaining and supporting the in-house system.

A strategic review identified the need for a modern, centralised platform to support multi-site operations and improve visibility across the business.

Solution

In just six weeks, Murray’s Chicken successfully implemented Emydex’s EQMS on their evisceration processing lines. The system was rolled out in collaboration between Emydex and Murray’s technical team and has since expanded to 16 workflow designs with 5 mobile devices used daily by quality teams.

The platform now enables:

Digital QC and HACCP checks
Mobile data capture with tablets on the floor
Real-time visibility for managers
Automated alerts for non-conformances
Custom workflows tailored to specific customer or audit requirements

Emydex also trained the QC Manager to build and customise workflows independently, allowing the team to adapt the system with ease

Emydex delivered a phased implementation across both sites.

Phase 1: Procurement, Transportation & Live Animal Handling
Phase 2: Warehouse Management and Export Sales

Phase 1 was successfully delivered across both Katanning and Southern Meats.

Key functionality included:

Appointment bookings
Saleyard purchasing
Delivery terminal
Automated settlements
Integration with the existing kill-floor system

Southern Meats went live shortly after Katanning, running in parallel with the legacy
system to support a controlled transition.

WAMMCO also implemented Emydex BI, enabling centralised reporting and real-
time data access across both sites.

Outcome

The implementation has enabled WAMMCO to standardise operations across both
plants.
Key outcomes include:

The platform provides real-time data across kill, production, inventory and finance,
supporting traceability and export compliance.
Automation of key processes has reduced manual workload while improving
