CEO Reflections 2025

13th January 2026

As we reflect on a defining year for Emydex, this article highlights key achievements and the strategic direction shaping 2026.

A Year of Growth, Innovation, and Industry Leadership

As we close the chapter on 2025 and step into a new year, below are my reflections on what has been an extraordinary year for Emydex Technology. A year marked by significant achievements across our customers, projects, people, and partnerships – each reinforcing our commitment to innovation and excellence in the global food processing industry.

Celebrating Our Successes in 2025

Industry Standard Project: Setting the Benchmark

A recurring theme throughout the year has been a major new product development initiative, our Industry Standard Systems project, now in its fourth year. Known internally as Project Vexillum (the Latin word for ‘standard’), this project initially focused on Beef and Lamb but will expand in 2026 to include other species, such as Pork, Poultry as well and Value-Added products. Our goal is clear: to establish a unified, best-in-class standard that drives consistency, compliance, and innovation across the industry. This project reflects our long-term vision to lead the digital transformation of food processing worldwide.

The first customer rollouts of our new Industry standard systems occurred in 2025, with Irish County Meats going live with Emydex’s new Lamb Industry Standard system in their flagship Camolin plant in Co. Wexford in Ireland, followed soon after with Sustainable Beef in the US going live with our Beef Industry Standard system in May 2025. This new greenfield, state-of-the-art plant in North Platte, Nebraska, employs over 850 local people. It is currently processing 1,200 head of cattle per day, with plans to increase throughput to 1,500 at full capacity.

Customer Partnerships and Global Expansion

2025 saw Emydex deepen relationships with leading processors worldwide, from red meat to poultry and beyond. Our collaboration with BAADER continued to flourish, enabling us to deliver integrated digital solutions across multiple species and markets. Together, we expanded into new territories and celebrated milestones such as supporting Murray’s Chicken in New York. These partnerships underscore our ability to combine cutting-edge technology with industry expertise to deliver measurable value for our customers.

In the UK, we delivered significant advancements to some of our key UK customers. Forresters Chicken continued operating our Emydex Quality Management System, supporting their existing Emydex MES modules for packing and labelling. Corvedale Fresh (previously Euro Quality Lambs) received regulatory enhancements, including AHDB deadweight sheep price reporting, building on its established lamb kill-line system. Dawn Meats UK (trading as Dunbia) expanded their roll-out of Emydex Quality Management across multiple UK plants, with agile development delivering site-specific and group-wide improvements to strengthen compliance and quality processes. In Scotland, Emydex is working with Vivers Scotlamb to roll out our Lamb Industry Standard MES system across Kill Line, Packing, and Warehousing. The project includes a custom Lamb Grading form to streamline operations and reduce costs, with commercial terms agreed to enable implementation.

In Africa, Emydex supported Meatco in Namibia with the commissioning of two new slaughter and carcass loadout plants north of the veterinary fence, following the successful Rundu site go-live in August. For Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) in Botswana, Emydex continues to provide enterprise-level processing solutions, reinforcing its role as the technology partner for the region’s largest beef processor. Both projects highlight Emydex’s focus on scalable systems and operational efficiency to meet throughput and licensing requirements across Southern Africa.

In Australia, Emydex was successfully implemented into leading Lamb processor, WAMMCO’s production facility in Katanning (WA), with Goulburn (NSW) due to go live in January, delivering advanced capabilities in livestock processing, production management, and integrated financial operations. This transformation strengthens efficiency, traceability, and compliance throughout the organisation. The next phase will see both plants achieve full go-live, alongside the introduction of additional modules, including Warehouse Management and export Sales Order Processing, as well as the newly developed Meat Messaging add-on, ensuring continued innovation and operational excellence.

2025 also saw the appointment of Shane Hayes as General Manager for the region, as he relocated back to his native home in Adelaide with his family. I joined Shane for a two-week road trip across Australia and New Zealand in November, attending customer and prospect meetings in Western Australia, Queensland, NSW, South Australia, as well as both North and South Islands in New Zealand. GM Australasia appointment.

In New Zealand, we completed the implementation of Emydex’s Manufacturing Execution System across all six Silver Fern Farms beef plants. This milestone delivers improved traceability, consistent processes, and enhanced reporting across the network. The current focus is on Venison and Lamb, with continued progress toward a fully integrated operational environment.

Major Projects and Product Innovation

We made significant strides in product development, particularly with two flagship product development initiatives:

  • Carcass Cutting Specifications
  • Bill of Materials and Recipe Yield

These projects are not just technical upgrades – they represent a leap forward in operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making for our clients. They also set the stage for future opportunities across processing plants globally.

Our People: The Heart of Emydex

Behind every success story is a team of dedicated professionals. In 2025, Emydex was once again certified as a Great Place to Work®, a testament to our culture of trust, collaboration, and innovation. With 80% of employees rating Emydex positively, we continue to prove that when our people succeed, our customers succeed too.

Companywide highlights

In August 2025, our annual Emycon event took place. This global team conference event connected teams across Ireland, Canada, ANZ, the US, UAE, India, Italy, Poland, Slovakia & Colombia; BAADER joined, reflecting momentum in collaboration.

Thought leadership & exhibitions

Traceability guidance and participation at both the IPPE trade show in Atlanta and IFFA in Germany showcased Emydex’s expertise to the wider market.

Looking Ahead: Goals and Ambitions for 2026

As we enter 2026, our ambitions are bold and focused:

  • Accelerate Delivery and Go-Live Milestones: We are committed to shortening sprint cycles and improving turnaround times, ensuring faster deployment and greater responsiveness for our clients.
  • Expand Industry Standard Across Species: Building on our success in beef and lamb, we will extend our standards to pork, poultry, and value-added products, reinforcing Emydex’s role as a global benchmark.
  • Drive Sustainability and Compliance: With sustainability moving from differentiator to expectation, we will embed transparency and environmental responsibility into our solutions, helping customers meet evolving regulatory and consumer demands.
  • Leverage AI and Data Analytics: We will continue to invest in advanced analytics and automation to enable smarter decision-making and operational excellence across the supply chain.

A Message of Gratitude and Optimism

None of this would be possible without the trust of our customers, the dedication of our people, and the strength of our partnerships. As we look to 2026, we do so with confidence and excitement. The challenges ahead are real: tightening supply chains, evolving consumer expectations, and the need for greater sustainability, but so are the opportunities. Together, we will continue to innovate, lead, and deliver solutions that shape the future of food processing.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to a successful and transformative year ahead.

Sustainable Beef. Built by Cattlemen. Powered by Technology.

8th December 2025

Emydex is proud to announce the successful go-live of its Production Management (MES) and Quality Management (QMS) software systems at Sustainable Beef, a newly launched state-of-the-art beef processing facility in North Platte, Nebraska, USA.

After months of collaboration on design, validation, and testing, the Emydex North American team arrived on site in May 2025 to oversee the final setup, configuration, and support for the system’s first operational phase. This milestone marks the deployment of our newly developed Emydex Beef Industry Standard software solution across the plant. It strengthens our partnership with one of the most forward-thinking beef processors in the United States.

About Sustainable Beef

Founded with a vision to bring transparency, efficiency, and shared value to every part of the beef supply chain, Sustainable Beef’s North Platte facility now employs over 850 local people and is designed to process up to 1,500 cattle per day at full capacity. The plant is projected to contribute more than $1.2 billion annually to Nebraska’s economy, underscoring its commitment to community-driven beef production and regional growth.

Initial Contact

The journey began in March 2023, when Sustainable Beef’s project consultants selected Emydex as their MES partner, citing our proven ability to integrate with modern, complex plants and deliver robust, scalable solutions. This was no ordinary implementation. The entire business, including construction, equipment, people, and processes, was being built from the ground up. Agility, deep industry knowledge, and adaptability were essential throughout the project cycle.

Requirements Analysis

Most requirements analysis was conducted remotely via online workshops, mapping the ‘expected future state’ of a plant still under construction. Challenges included undefined SOPs and uncertainty to hardware locations, as many staff were hired only close to go-live. Emydex visited the plant in November 2024 to review key processes and touchpoints, incorporating US-specific requirements such as Packers and Stockyards Act compliance and USDA grading processes into our solution.

Implementation & Testing

Leveraging our new Beef Industry Standard design and reusable components, Emydex minimised custom development and accelerated timelines. The Emydex Beef system delivered to Sustainable Beef required few development changes, with configuration and training managed by an Emydex team of project managers, business analysts, and software engineers on site. Rigorous testing, including dry runs of the kill floor chain using ‘orange cows’ (orange builders’ buckets) ensured system stability and readiness for live operations.

Kill Chain Testing

Operator Training

System Go-live

In June 2025, Emydex supported Sustainable Beef through a phased go-live approach, starting with core MES and QMS functionalities. Our on-site team worked side-by-side with plant personnel to:

  • Validate real-time data flows across grading, ERP, and labelling systems.
  • Provide hands-on training for operators and supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot and fine-tune integrations with MEQ grading, Vande Berg Scales, and Business Central ERP.

The first cattle were processed under the new system without disruption – a testament to the collaborative effort and meticulous planning by both teams.

Customer Perspective:

Go-live today was a success! There were tense moments, but overall, today went very well. The hundreds of hours dedicated to this aspect of the plant opening and operating paid off.  Our initial goal was achieved. ”

Kris Smith, Manager of Information Technology – Sustainable Beef, LLC

Post Go-live: Driving Continuous Improvement

Since go-live, Sustainable Beef has rapidly scaled production, recently surpassing 1,300 head in a single day. Emydex continues to provide:

  • Remote and on-site support to optimise workflows.
  • Performance monitoring to ensure system reliability.
  • Integration enhancements, including connections with FPEC for trim products and EDI updates for major customers like Walmart.

These efforts ensure Sustainable Beef remains at the forefront of traceability, efficiency, and compliance, setting a benchmark for the US beef industry.

Customer Perspective:

We’re moving from reactive mode to steady development. The system is central to our operations and is helping us ramp up production efficiently.”

Manager Sustainable Beef, LLC

A Foundation for the Future

With production ramping up and systems delivering real-time insights, Sustainable Beef stands as a blueprint for transparent, efficient, and community-focused beef processing. For Emydex, this project represents a significant milestone in the United States and a reference point for future growth in the region.

Silver Fern Farms Pacific Site Goes Live with Emydex Beef Processing Software

18th September 2025

The successful implementation of Emydex software at the Pacific (Hastings) site marks another important milestone in the five-year partnership between Emydex and Silver Fern Farms (SFF). This is the sixth primary butchery site for beef processing within the SFF network to go live with Emydex’s traceability and production control systems.

A trusted partnership in New Zealand’s red meat industry

Silver Fern Farms is one of New Zealand’s leading red meat companies, recognised for its focus on quality, sustainability and innovation. Since 2020, Emydex has worked alongside the SFF team to deliver tailored software solutions that optimise operations, enhance visibility and support data-driven decision making across the company’s beef processing plants.

Custom deployment for a site with unique requirements

The go-live at Pacific followed a structured deployment approach, beginning with the transition from the legacy CRS system to Emydex. Barrel testing was conducted in advance to simulate real animal processing and ensure system readiness.

Due to the specific layout of the Pacific site, liveweight data needed to be captured before the stunning stage. To accommodate this, Emydex designed and implemented a custom indicator terminal that replicates the standard liveweight functionality while integrating seamlessly into the existing process.

Efficient delivery and strong collaboration

As with previous deployments, the Pacific rollout was executed smoothly, with only minor issues quickly resolved by the combined efforts of the on-site and remote support teams. This go-live also included the rollout of SFF BI V2, the latest version of Emydex’s business intelligence platform. The updated solution enhances access to production insights and enables faster, more informed decision-making across operations.

Positive feedback from the SFF team

Feedback from Silver Fern Farms has been extremely positive. Matt Ballard, Chief Transformation Officer, shared:

Great Moment! Our legacy CRS system is now retired across all our six beef only plants! Keep going team!”

This successful go-live reinforces the strength of the partnership and the shared commitment to continuous improvement across the SFF network.

Looking ahead

The successful go-live at Pacific confirms the effectiveness and adaptability of the Emydex platform across Silver Fern Farms’ operations. The implementation has proven to be both efficient and beneficial for on-site teams, reinforcing the strength of the ongoing collaboration. With all six beef processing sites now live or nearing completion, the focus will soon shift to supporting Silver Fern Farms as they prepare to roll out Emydex systems across new species, including venison and lamb, in the near future.
